Van Gogh replica completely out of 10.000 sunflowers

At the museum a giant replica of a self-portrait of Van Gogh attracts all the attention. That is probably because the work is entirely made of sunflowers. The unique stunt for Shell is devised by brand activation agency BrandBase to share Shell’s involvement with the research into the way Vincent van Gogh worked and the exhibition ‘Van Gogh at Work’ in a striking and beautiful way with the Netherlands.

The replica of the 1888 self-portrait was a challenging project. The 10 by 8 meters panel was filled with 10.000 sunflowers collected and arranged by size and hue. The project was so special that it already made the newspapers in pre-production.

Shell and BrandBase increasingly work together in remarkable projects such as the Mobile Traffic Safety Square with which Shell and Veilig Verkeer Nederland contribute to the traffic safety of children. Also the Shell Eco-marathon – with 50,000 annual visitors – the most durable race in the world and a five-day festival in Ahoy on the future of mobility and energy. Or the interactive road show to promote the forgotten profession of  'process engineering'.
